Get the glow
Depending on where you are in South Africa, your skin requirements vary drastically. While Cape Town experiences severe drought conditions, Johannesburg has had an increase in rainfall – specifically afternoon thunderstorms! Counter-balancing soaring temperatures, dry conditions or humid conditions with your skin can be difficult and while Lotions and crèmes might have carried us through summer –we need a product that will penetrate the skin layers and provide deep and intensive hydration going into winter. Hello Body Oil!
For generations, women have been mixing their own oil concoctions to get the consistency just right. Consumers look to body oil as a solution first thing in the morning or last thing at night, directly after a shower or bath. Oil promotes elasticity and gives the skin a gorgeous glow – something not always achieved with a lotion or crème.
South African beauty brand Clere Radiance recently added a 5 Oils body range to their successful skincare line. The range includes a body oil, a moisturising crème and a lotion. The 5-oil blend consists of olive oil to help unclog pores, castor oil to remove impurities, coconut oil to soften the skin, argan oil to hydrate and magnolia oil to help minimise the appearance of stretchmarks. Pure glycerine plus vitamin A&E and Super Fruit Serum with anti-oxidants also help to nourish, moisturise and reduce the visible signs of ageing for soft, beautiful, even-looking skin.
Brand custodian Thembelihle Lephoko offers a few situations in which using a body oil is ideal:
- Massage – use your body oil to massage tight muscles on you or your partner. Massaging the body is an effective way to reduce stress and relax.
- Bath – why wait to apply the oil after your bath – rather squeeze a few drops into your hot, steamy bath and enjoy the moisturising benefits while you soak.
- The best time to apply a body oil is directly following a bath or shower. Leave your skin a little moist after towelling off and use your hands to apply the oil all over your body. This kind of application allows for quicker and deeper oil penetration and absorption.
Lephoko says that when selecting a body oil, it’s important to look for a quick absorbing, non-greasy formula that is suitable for all skin types. She cautions consumers to remember that ‘a little goes a long way’ when it comes to oil. “When you squirt the oil onto the palm, rather take a lesser amount as the oil spreads beautifully, and you use less than you think you would.” She also says that warming the oil slightly between your fingers makes application even easier.
The Clere Radiance Body Oil retails for approximately R59,99 as is available at all major retail outlets.
